Living in Salt Lake were temps can get extremely hot in summer time & brutally cold in winter months. I was wonder what oils do most of you run? Orignally I was running Mobile One 0W40 synthetic, than I switched to Royal Purple Full synthetic Perfomance Oil 5W30. I was very please with both, break down on both were very clean. Would be safe to say no sledge or at least very minimual.
I currently have 5w40 Full Synthetic Mobile One Turbo Diesel Oil. My reasoning is, I have heard mention of Mobile One Turbo Diesel Oil has more of the good stuff left in it for wear protection where the other Mobil 1 oils have had a lot of the additives removed to reduce emissions. I do believe the Turbo Diesel is API SL (which is better on engine) as oppossed to the new stuff which is API SM (better for the enviroment, but lacks some key wear-reducing ingredients) The Saying it shortly the Goverment picked emissions over performance and I'm picking performance over emissions.
Just my 2 cents, do the research and decide. Just my take on performance oil.
I am thinking next oil change going with a 15W50 for Summer months and than switching back to 5W40 for colder months.

I've always used the Mobil One 0W40. It's treated me really well. I want to try the Royal Purple. Lots of people on the forums love the Royal Purple.

I usually use mobil one, but it never goes on sale anymore. Right now I have Castrol Syntec in it. Seems ok so far. 5-20, with a KnN oil filter.

Amsoil 5W40 in my 426. I would have used Royal Purple just as easy but the auto store didn't happen to have enough RP at the time.

I use Mobil 1 0w40 in the winter and switch to 15W50 for summer and no issues here. The main reason I switch is to help quiet down the motor(15W50).

Wanted to share some info with everyone. For those that dont do their own oil changes and for those that do. I had mine done few weeks ago @lhm and the Trevor the Service writer told me that they are offering 4 fully synthetic oil changes for for $88. I repeat full synthetic. Yep didn't believe it myself. Told him to get out of Dodge (no pun intended). I normally pay 65 for one oil change, so it was like buying one & getting 3 free... I used to change my own oil but it was costing me $65 to do it myself with Full synthetic & oil filter. So what I am getting at, is this is less than $25 per oil change with full synthetic. You do the math. I couldn't even buy conventional oil that cheap.. Just thought I would share.

I didnt think it was, but just double checking ;D Thats pretty good deal, but its still more than LHM $88 for 4 changes.. & yes I know ya dont have to change the oil every 3k with synthetic, but I do....

8k miles between changes. $26 buck for full synthetic, I will take it. And for LHM doing those changes, feel free. I like to work on my own car when I can. But since you and your princess car are prissy little sissy pansy asses. I see why you don't want to get a little grease under your fingernails, and ruin that french manicure you have.

I'm running Mobil 1 0W40. Don't know much about Royal Purple, but I have a tube of their grease I was given to try. I am a firm believer in full synthetic, and change the oil every 10K and the filter every 5K. I do this with all my cars. I recently tore down an engine that I have ran Mobil 1 in for the last 8 years, the engine has 240K miles on it. When I pulled the head off there was no noticeable ring ridge what so ever (I have pictures to prove it)! I popped out the #1 piston out the top with no trouble what so ever. When I inspected the rod bearings there was very little wear. Needless to say I was floored! The only reason I tore the engine down to begin with is I lost the timing chain and bent a couple of valves. Normal oil will never touch my cars again. If you can find the Mobil 1 in the large 5 qt containers you can save some money over buying the individual qts.
