Ok, need some help from some of your stereo experts. We were trying to remove the radio from Kira's Dart tonight, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to remove it. It appears that I have to remove the face plate, but I didn't see a way to do it. I thinking that I remember something about a special tool need to remove it. Here's a picture of the face of the stereo. It's a Kenwood.  |

We had a stereo similar to this and we needed a tool to remove it. It came with the radio,I still have it I believe so if its the same and you need the tool you can use it. I am sure someone with more smarts will chime in,but if I can help let me know.

those slits on both sides is the key (special tool slot) find a couple flat pieces of metal or thin plastic to slide all the way into those slots! on both sides of the radio chassis are metal wings that have a little bit of spring to them and push out and when you slide the radio into the dash the wings push against the sides of the radio bucket until they reach the groove and are then locked in, by sliding the tool into these slots you press the wings back against the chassis out of the groove and the deck will slide out! you might have to wiggle and pull once you have them in, a third hand will help!

I like Patrick's Idea too, but I'll keep the first idea in mind just in case.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ya know i deleted about 2 lines of direction at the end after i read it out loud to myself, was gonna keep it but......... why didn't i?  ?? you took it there anyway and its not like were all a bunch of prudes, i was just trying to sound a little more innocent and did some editing!!!!!! it was bad i laughed for a few before i decided to erase it!!! no more editing for me from now on, i'll leave that up to the moderators for keeping me in line! |
