Hey everyone I need help from someone who knows radios.. In my car I had a JL audio w6 with a kenwood 1000 watt amp worked awesome hit hard, so I decided to buy another w6 and hooked it up with my other sub and have the same amp but now instead of hitting hard it blows the amp fuse when I turn the radio up.. What's wrong? As far as ohms and stuff I don't know anything about it.. So if u have time to look at it that would be awesome, if u don't then any info would be awesome thanks guys

How do you have them wired. I could take a look at it for you.

Are they wired using the same power cable? Or do you have individual cables coming from the battery to the amps?

Those w6 subs require a lot of power to run. What ohm are your subs at and if you have them bridged you cut that in half. Most likley you are running at 2 ohms and your amp needs to be at least 2 ohm stable if not your amp will go into safe or blow fuses and eventually burn up

@ green with envy - if we were able to meet that would be awesome but I forgot to mention I live in west Jordan/kearns area
@ dart boy - I have one power cable coming from the batt to the amp
@ gomango - I have no idea what ohms I have or what ohms the sub is pushing :-) that's y I'm looking for help.. And I also don't know what bridging is..

Call me at 801-686-4111 if you can take a picture of the back of the subs where the wires hook up and both sides of the amp where the wires hook up and text them to me. Those subs run 500+ watts rms and I believe your amp only runs 300 watts rms I just need to see the hookups to tell

Hey everyone I need help from someone who knows radios.. In my car I had a JL audio w6 with a kenwood 1000 whatt amp worked awesome hit hard, so I decided to buy another w6 and hooked it up with my other sub and have the same amp but now instead of hitting hard it blows the amp fuse when I turn the radio up.. What's wrong? As far as ohms and stuff I don't know anything about it.. So if u have time to look at it that would be awesome, if u don't then any info would be awesome thanks guys First off, what fuse is blowing? The amp itself or an inline fuse to the amp? Secondly, how did you wire the subs? Are you using both voice coils? Thirdly, what amp model is it??? A thousand whatt Kenwood, likely only pushes about 300-500 at 4ohm and 750-1000 at 2ohm or whatever its lowest ohm load capicity is. Amps are a game and you need an ohm-meter to actually test what your wattage output is under load. After looking at the speaker, I'm guessing one of two things is happening. Either you are starving the speaker, its clipping, thus causing the amp to short. Or, you have them wired in a manner the amp cannot handle it. The W6V2 is not, I repeat not a true dual 4 ohm speaker. Its 6.3 when ran in Series or 1.5 in parallel or 3.25 per voice coil. Parameters like this are lower than usual and can adversely affect draw on your amp and cause it to, well, die prematurely. Its a Kenwood so that's expected anyway (sorry, the only brand I have no respect for their amps after dealing with them in my installation days, head units yes, amps no) Also, the amp may be rated to 1ohm and is a 2 channel amp. If so, most 2 channel amps cannot capacitate a 1 ohm load at 2 channels, they can only hand it at 1 channel, and visa-versa. It depends on the circuitry of the amp... i.e. Class A,B, or D. Also a factor is wiring. Do you have an in-line capacitor? Is your amp converting 12 volt or 14 volt (without a capicitor and not powered by dedicated alternator this will be between 12-13)? Input voltage effects output greatly as well. Answer those and we can get this fixed for you. Another thing to consider is that more sub doesn't always mean more boom. In a trunk scenario, airspace and baffle play a vital role in how the subs perform. Oh yeah, is the box sealed, ported, or bandpass. All three effect the whattage output of a sub during peak sound reproduction differently. I.E. a free air sub works half as hard as one that is sealed and has to actually force air movement inside the chamber. Audio installer/fabricator turned Architect... over and out! Hope I didn't lose you in my speal.... there is a lot to consider when matching subs to amps and into a car... nice pick on the subs by the way. JL Audio is truly the shiz.

Well the reason I got the 2nd one is cause I'm going to but Greg's maggie and he has that custom box for two 12" so I figure better get another one :-) maybe I'll just leave it right now take everything out of car and just wait to test everything when I put it in the mag..

Ah... don't be sceered. Whats the model of the Kenwood amp? Give me that and I can tell you whether or not your amp can even handle two beastly W6 subs and if so how to wire them to not cause harm to any equipment. But of course, waiting for the Magnum is always coooooooool. Magnums have great cabin space and good cabin air movement within.

that looks sick. did you make those boxes yourself?

The subs are rated at 600w peak with a dual 4ohm voice coil so the amp should be fine to run both subs as long ad their wired properly. most kenwood amps are 2 channel with a bridge option. if you can post a picture of the spec sticker on the amp and all the hookup block that way we might be able to help a little more. and like alpinewil81 said what fuse keeps blowing?

Just don't forget, the JL W6 is not a true 4ohm, its less. And in parallel wiring you need to know that so you don't overdraw the amp. All it takes is .5 ohm to cook a board inside the amp.
Don't worry, we can help you... we're cool like that around here.

that looks sick. did you make those boxes yourself? Visit my photobucket page: s847.photobucket.com/albums/ab34/alpinewil81/ . Look on the right browsing pane for my sub albums. I have quite a few dedicated to this car and the work. Other creations are located at my facebook page. I did my old SAAB 9-3 SS and its posted there... done much more but those two I'm more proud of except my old '92 Nissan 240sx which packed 6 12's and a slew of other equipment. I did not do ALL the fiberglass work myself. At the time I lived in a trailer with no garage. I've done plenty of fiberglass work so I was able to bond and finish the raw enclosures, seal them, then carpet them. I also did all the wiring and amp rack myself... on my front porch over a weekend. I've even installed an overhead DVD player in the car, and yes it has a sunroof. Many LXForums members said it couldn't be done due to the sunroof factor. Using the substructure of the sun roof I designed and fabricated a bracket to mount one to, it can be done and clears everything. There is not a lot out there with sunroofs and overhead in the Magnum I've noticed...
