LHM Track Day March 7, 2009

The event has been set up by SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) and is open to all. March 7th is the last of three events since January. The cost is $60.00 for the day and the events will be on the East Track.

Unlike most open track events there are no pre-training and certifications to go through as you are only racing against the clock. There are various classes of cars competing for the best time and prizes will be given out at the end of the day. A guy in my office went to the first event in January and had a blast. The way he explained the events of the day is you get two practice sets (three laps). Then after everyone has had their practice laps they start the official time lamps. How many sets of timed laps you'll get depends on how many cars show up. Last time everyone got three sets of timed laps. In total that was 15 laps around the whole track! In the straight away the big block cars were hitting over 100 mph. They have some cones you have to go around in the straight away which keeps the speeds down as the don't want inexperienced drivers going too fast around that first turn and loosing it. A helmet is required, but you can rent them at the track for about $25.00 (head socks have to be worn if you rent)

To give you a price comparison, a normal open day at the track cost $210.00 for half a day (consist of 3 twenty minute sessions) and $300 for a full day (consist of 5 twenty minute sessions). However you have to go through a safety course and be certified before they will let you on the track as you are racing beside other cars.

I've not been yet, but I'm looking forward the March 7th. I'm looking forward to seeing just what my Magnum SRT8 is capable of. I do have a friend that is going to bring his Mustang Saleen to race that day too. It would be nice if Mopar was represented by more then one car. Plus it would be nice to meet some of the guys from the LX Club as I'm new. I don't think is cost spectators anything to attend (but don't quote me on that).

Registration opens at 7:30am
Drivers meeting at 9:30am
Runs start at 10:00am
Awards at 4:00pm

there will be plenty more times to do this. I believe they do this deal once a month.

BENISASPUD, got your Email. Cruising out together would be great. If your renting a helmet, don't forget to bring a head sock. My daughter is coming along to take pictures and or video.

Just remember that you would not be racing against any other cars, it's just you, the track, and the clock. You push as hard as you feel comfortable. Also remember that all R/T and SRT models come with traction control. When I went to the SRT Track Experience, they taught you to leave the traction control on, if you push a little too hard it will kick in and help keep you out of trouble.

Just as an FYI, the SCCA isn't running another AutoCross until June, but I don't know if it is an open event.

I've got a head sock. I'll just need to rent a helmet when I get there. I thought about investing in a helmet. They're around $200-$400 of a nice helmet.

I might be able to get ahold of a strut tower brace before the race. So we'll see how much better it will handle.

I was looking at the map this morning, and there really isn't any place to meet where the 80 and 215 meet. How about this, 3200 off of the 201, just West of the 210 there is a Maverik Gas Station. What if we were to meet there, let's say about 6:30am? The track is about another 30 miles away, but we would still have to find the entrance.

I know what you mean. I moved up here from So Cal three years ago. It as taken me a little while to get used to the street numbering system. The thing that drove me nuts was when they called 2400 24th Street, or HWY 201 the 21st Street Hwy.

Awesome. Everyone was telling me 24th St and I kept on typing that in my GPS and could not find what they were talking about. ;DThere's going to be another member from a club back home in San Jose who will be moving to the Syracuse area this summer.
