I love my new Charger but it doesn't sound like an R/T should IMO. But I can't afford a new cat-back system. So LHM Dodge suggested I just swap out the mufflers for Magnaflows, and I did that last Friday. But I don't notice any difference over stock, so they still have my car and I'm trying to figure out what to do.
Here's my understanding: Removing the resonators (and replacing the mufflers) makes it sound great but introduces drone. The drone is mostly in ECO mode when the MDS kicks in. Removing the muffler and leaving the resonator is pretty good too but not legal.
As this is my commuter car I'm a little worried about drone. So is there another muffler I can swap to that will still give a noticeable sound even with the resonators? I'm thinking some of the more aggressive ones like MagnaPacks for FlowMasters (40,44,50). Do you get drone with these even with a resonator?
Does anyone have this combination around here that I could listen to?
Thanks very much.

I've got super 44's without resonators and yes definitely drones but doesn't bug me, kinda bugs passengers on long drives especially in the back seat you really have a hard time having a conversation lol! As far as just swapping the mufflers as long as you leave the resonators in you won't get much of a drone but you also wont get a big difference in tone especially if you want it to sound like you stated "an R/T" between all the members in the club I think we have every and any combination of exhaust setups! So of people chime in here I'm sure you'll get an idea, but at least you have the opinion on my setup (which is pretty popular a lot of folks have it) good luck and I hope you find what your looking for!

Cut the resonators off and you will tell the differance imediatly. I don't have the muffler swap yet just reso delets and it sound pretty good IMO but I want louder so i plan on going to magnaflows or super 40's. But as stated above with the reso's still in you won't be able to tell that much of a differance.

You are more then welcome to listen to mine .I don't know if it's comparing apples to apples because of the other mods, such long tube headers and etc.....
But none the less, you're more then welcome. I have magna flow, only one small center resonator. No drone and mean and aggressive sounding exhaust and wild and loud at WOT.
if you are looking for sound, I would just get some exhaust cutouts. That would give you the sound you are looking for and probably the most cost effective and they have a cool factor too because you can control it and it dumps right after the cats for really loud sound when open and you can close them for long road trips to keep the wife/girlfriend happy.

Thanks everyone. Another option might be to put cutouts between the mufflers and resonators -- then I could get the sound I want but when there's drone I could engage the resonators.

Ya know I've never seen anyone put cutouts that far back, most of us want them so we can uncork her completely lol, but that's a really good idea for what your wanting to accomplish, good thinking! Sent from my SGH-T889 using proboards

If I had a tuned engine and raced it would be one thing. But I just checked prices and they're too expensive. This is getting discouraging.

Craig, you may want to just leave it as it is, especially if you are concern with cost and passing emission, just my .2

There is definitely some merit to that; manufacturers put a lot of engineering into these vehicles. I've left all my other cars stock except for my old ones.

mine is the redneck way, i just cut out the suitcase muffler and left the cats and resonators, not a lot of difference when just cruising at low rpms but sounds really good when im getting on it. i have had a few people tell me that is sounds good when were racing around here so i just left it.

That's what I was planning on doing until I found out that I wouldn't pass inspection. So I was thinking of a glasspack or something, but even that might kill the sound.

I had the suit case muffler cat out and a piece of straight pipe put in. Then I had Magna Flow 40's put in where the resonators used to be. I like the sound and get a lot of comments about it. However there is a little drone between 800 and 1200 rpms, but nothing above that. Haven't had an issues with Emissions with that set up.

I do a little around 2000 RPM but I use autostick to shift out of the "drone zone"

Interesting, drone at those rpms wouldn't be too bad as you don't stay there long. So is there a difference between leaving the mufflers in the stock location and putting them in the back?
