I was there. The best time I ran was a 14.71. I guess I'm slower because I'm fat. I heard you lose a .10 for every extra 100 pounds in the car, but anyway...I made it to the third round where I lost to a white corvette with red stripes who was within .05 of his dial-in . I've seen him there alot so he's probobly an old pro at racing. My last two times were slower 14.8's as the night went on even with good reaction times .07 and a .08 I think it was due to the track surface getting cooler which was creating more wheel spin at the start. I heard that the other guy(I can't remember his name) with the silver 300 made it to the finals but I don't know if he won. My friend with the black mustang was knocked out first round, bummer! He won the heavy class last time we were out there he got a giant trophy and 50$ in the mail pretty cool. I had a blast, the weather was great, made it to the quarter finals and ran a little faster. Hey Ed, Congrats on making it to the 3rd round. I know why you are running 14.7-14.8 and its nothing to do with your weight my friend. I was running the same time 14.8, until I place vehicle in 1st gear instead of Drive. I advised Lee(2chargerguy) who was racing in Drive as well, to place vehicle in 1st and just run it down track. He improved his time from 14.8 to 14.1-14.2, the same as I did. Phil w/ Jeep SRT8 & Gordon(ruslbus) both advised me to do that, and I took their advised and broke out with 14.0. Ben also confirmed he is running in 1st gear. There is a huge difference from racing in 1st gear opposed to Drive. Try it next time, I would beat my dollar you will run better than 14.7... Oh and make sure A/C off ;D I think everyone out there races with vehicle in first gear!

Yep!!! Definitely race in first gear and be at about 1000-1500 RPMs at the line to get that launch. Also, ESP off.

So when you race it in first gear does it still shift itself so nothing breaks or do you just shift when you hit the red?

it shifts itself, but lately I've been shifting myself.

Sorry for chiming in a little late. It's been busy over the week end.
Not sure how much of a difference the 100 octane made as Kira really didn't have a solid run all night. The first run she knew she fell asleep at the light as she saw the green (.321 R/T). She didn't launch the car but just kind of rolled on the throttle, got a 14.432 on the 1/4 time, but was doing 102.11 through the trap!
The second run she took off on the second yellow and got a -.148 R/T. When she saw the red light she back off for a second before getting on it again. That time her 1/4 time was 14.22 and 101.33 through the trap.
At this point I didn't know what to put down for her dial in time. I didn't have one full hard run but felt the car could break 14, but didn't know by how much. So for the first round of eliminations I put her at 14 flat. This time she nailed the lights with a .077 R/T and buried the petal. Just by the way she was running she knew she was going to break out of the 14 flat time, and she was way ahead of the other car (you can see her time flash up way before the other car in Ben's Kira vs Mustang video), so she back off the gas toward the end but it wasn't enough. She broke out by .035 seconds with a 13.965 doing only 95.37 mph through the trap.
If she kept her foot in it I'm not sure what she would have pulled that last race.
Everyone but Lee and Ed were out after the first round. In the second round of eliminations Lee red lighted with a -.0 something R/T. I think he would have won if he hadn't of red lighted.
That guy in the while Corvette does do a lot of racing. He has a little gadget to measure the air density and a computer to help him figure his dial in. That is how he gets so close. Several of the guys on the Mutants have little gadgets to help them.
We also start the car in first gear and let it shift on it's own. It's shifting at about 6200 rpm's. Kira just mashes the pedal from idle with the traction control off. But it depends on the tires. It seems that both Ben and my tires are biting really good (I'm running the Goodyear Eagle F1's, can't remember what Ben has). Several of the other guys have had trouble getting their tires to hook up. If that is the case if you raise your RPM's off the line you could just end up smoking your tires off the line, which isn't good. You have to play with it. Best thing is to go to a Test and Tune to make some runs to see what works for you (the next one is 8/19).
The next, and last RMR of this year is on 8/4. I hope we can get a really go showing for this last race!

I hope to make it to the test and tune. My times are always all over the place, i need to find a setup to do every run. My other problem is im scared to redline so i always seem to go on green so need to work going on that third light.

Thanks guys I will try the putting it in first gear thing, it makes sense I just didn't know it would shift on it's own in the manual mode and I didn't want to be looking down at the tach all the time to see if it's time to shift. The first practice run I tried the power break method but didn't pay attention to the RPM's and while the tree was counting down my tires started braking loose so I let off the brake for a split second then got back on the brake and it threw my timing off and I red lighted by a mile. But next time I will pay attention to the rpm 's and have it in 1st gear and hopefully I will be closer to the rest of you guys.
I won't be able to make the test and tune because I have rented a condo in Bear lake for a couple of days 19th 20th so hopefully I will make it to the club race in september.
I appreciate all your guys input!!!

It will shift automatically, no need to auto shift it, just place it in 1st gear, give gas, and go really fast I know, it may not feel like its going to shift, but it does.... I was a little nervous too. I wouldnt suggest running around town in first gear, but you will be fine at the drag strip.

I didn't know that so if I put my car in first it will shift by its self Yep!! It will shift at around 6300 rpm's, just before the red line. For normal driving it doesn't work too well, but if you have the gas pedal pressed to the floor it works just fine. As Chris, I was a little nervous the first time I tried it, but now I do that all the time.
