I have a CAI that can be installed as the short length or the long length that extends down near the fog lights. I was going to install the short version due to concerns about snow/ice/water getting up to the filter this winter. I don't believe that I get enough additional benefit to go with the extended version. Anyone want to change my mind or am I making the right move?

I believe Mikey has the extended CAI and likes it. Shoot him a pm or maybe he'll chime in.

I would suggest installing the Extender, to bring it down to the fog light area. Reason why, is the whole point of CAI is to suck in cooler air, short ram during the summer time sucks warmer air from engine. I am pretty sure lower CAI temps would be few degrees cooler than Short AI (air intake) near hot engine bay.
Besides, the only concern with Lower CAI would be standing water. Snow/ Ice wouldnt hurt it as long as you are driving through standing pond or puddle. This being said, I have yet to run across a lake in the middle of the road & if there was one, found another route to detour.
My next Air Intake is going to be a ( true CAI) lower placed Intake w/ Filter(s). Even thought about the idea of removing Fog light for track purpose, this way the air goes directly into filter without any restriction.

I guess I was a little concerned about all of the snow we get here. I was thinking about just switching it out in the spring, but if you guys think it will be ok, I may just run with it now.

I would run the extended one. If you have a belly pan, you definitely have nothing to worry about.

I run the Stack Bullet and it goes down to the Fog Light Area. I went from a short one to this and Im sure i felt a difference.
