Boy what a great weekend! ;D
Even though the rain slowed things down a little, and it was cold and windy both Friday and Saturday, we had a lot of fun!
Though the Drag Strip was closed due to rain Saturday morning till about Noon, the auto cross course was running all morning. After getting a couple of rides in that hot Hotchins Challenger I decided to try the Mag on the course (or should I say Kira did). I was a little nervous at first as she had never driven on that type of course before (nor had my car). The gal driving the Challenger said she would ride with Kira the first couple of times and give her a quick lesson which helped me feet better. I didn't learn until after the fact that she was Mary Pozzi (I didn't even know who that was until Phil filled me in). Couldn't ask for better teacher then that! I had to steal the car from Kira as she was having too much fun running the course, but she stole it back from me after my one run!
Kira got interviewed by Hotchins and they even put a camera on the Mag during my drive. We wanted to go back but just didn't have time.
Kira also got a ride on the Autocross course in her dream car, a Viper ACR, as did I!
Friday afternoon during some down time we were able to walk the swap-meet and bought a rear qtr skin for her Dart.
Kira was the talk of the track Saturday after she got the Magnum sideways on the track during one of her runs. I love the people at the track, many people came up to her afterwards making sure she was ok and making sure she was ready to get back into the car. It was a scary experience for her and for me to watch! But she did a great job of getting the Mag back under control! It was all caught on video by Harrison on Lee's camera. Maybe we can get him to post that some time soon.
My head is still a little foggy with only having 4 hours sleep after getting home last night, so let's see if I can remember this right.
Lee, Kira, & Dewayne ran in the New Hemi Class. Kira was out in the first round due to a break out, and Lee was out in the second with a break out. I think Dewayne made it to the third before being taken out.
In the Street Class was Kira, Dewayne, & Matt. Dewayne broke out in the first round and Kira made it to the third round before red lighting. Was trying to track Matt and his van, but lost track.
Kellie was racing in the Compact Class and broke out in the second round with a 11.9 second run! He wasn't happy about breaking out, but he was very happy with the time! As stated, not as happy as he was taking out the Viper!
The Club Bar-B-Q suffered a little bit however due to the rain and cold weather that came up about the time it was to start. But thanks for those that put with with the weather and showed anyways. We had a great time visiting! Thanks to those that help out as well!
Don't know how many of you went to the Moparty Concert Saturday Night, if not you sure missed out! The band had several guest that played with them including the drummer of Journey, lead singer of Boston, lead singer & guitarist of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and there was one more but I missed who is was. Wow what a concert! Best part it was free!
We spent part of Friday night on the strip visiting a candy store in front of the Paris Hotel, the M&M Store, and the Coke Store. Kira and her friend did the Coke Around the World thing that was rather interesting.
We also spent about an hour or so at the Shelby Factory Museum that was just down the street. If your a Mustang nut, that's the place to go. But I learned a couple of things there after asking why they had a Viper in their display. Apparently Shelby was one of the main influences in the design of the Viper! They also had an interesting car next to the Viper, which I found out was his attempt to merge a Corvette and a Viper together!
I was also able to check out a motor at the Indy booth that got my attention. A blown 440 small block with over 700 horses! I had to wonder how well that would do in my Valiant?
However it had a rather large price tag to go along with it!
It was a blast watching many in the club breaking their personal best (as already stated) this week end.
