I'm looking into changing my gear ratios in my differentials I was wondering if anybody in the club has experience in changing them. I'd like to save the cash and see if anybody out there would like to help me change them? maybe we can have a mod day.

Let's talk! I've not done it on the newer cars yet but it can't be that hard!

If you get the gears and the install kit, I can get the stuff off alldata. I've got a Detroit true track I still need to install in my truck so we could figure it out.

If so why are you switching and what are you switching to? Figured 3:55 were prettty good gearing for the Jeeps. I know GCSRT have 3:73. IMO, not much of a change to offset the cost, but I guess it would be a little more getup off the line. And 1k per differential is way too much, Mike McCoy @ Gears Transmission will give you a much better price quote and he is a fricken transmission pro.

I'm going to a 4.10 gear set fingers crossed. It has 373 gears in it. I'm looking for better low end pull. The 4.7 is a good rpm engine it just lags in torque for that heavy of a vehicle.. I just spoke to six states and they want 750 for both axles for just labor.

I just spoke to six states and they want 750 for both axles for just labor. 3:73 gears is plenty of gearing for a 5 speed auto. IMO 4:10 w/ 5 speed automatic transmission is going to be unbearable on your gas mileage and wallet. 4:10 is overkill unless you plan to do alot of racing. If ya want more low end pull, I would look at getting a camshaft, which would be alot cheaper then $1500 for 2 differential labor cost. If you are dead set in going taller gearing, call Mike McCoy at gears transmissions. He did an awesome top notch job on my gears, torque convertor, flexplate, transcooler, halfshafts for around $600. Of cource, I only had one differential to install. It wouldnt hurt to get a quote from Mike.

The 4.7L is actually a SOHC setup Chris, and there actually isn't that much aftermarket availability yet for them. Last I heard the factory HO cams are on backorder for a couple months. Most of the guys I know with 4.7L Dakotas are just getting custom regrind cams.
I'd definitely agree with doing the cams over gears for the mileage factor, but the cost would almost be the same.
