Went to check out an SRT8 today

Couldnt make the meet today because i spent kinda long checking this out.

Today i went to go check out an 2007 SRT8 with 23k miles. It was in decent condition for being used and a great price. What stood out the most was a kinda bad dent on the rear passenger door but a little touch up paint and no one would notice. Had its normal scratches and it also had a clear bra that tooks its abuse. The interior is good except for what looks like two cigarette burns on the drivers seat.

Here are the major things i found odd.

First, the inside of the hood that has the black material that saids SRT had white stains on it. I scraped some of it off with my nail and it was just like a powder. What can cause that? It almost looks like salt from winter time but i have no idea how it could get up there.

Second, after the test drive i was looking around in the engine bay and popped open the air intake. I found half of the air filter was covered in engine oil and it even leaked to the bottom of the intake case. The oil on the air filter looked clear/clean but the one that fell on to the bottom looked really dark. That kinda scared me off buying the car but i want to find out what that is.

Third, the rocker panels were covered in this white crap it felt like rock chips that were covered in dried up salt or something. It was even on a part of the fender itself. I didnt think it was a huge problem because i could get some grip rocker panels in the future but where its on the parts of the wheel fender itself which i cant easily replace. The salesman said that would come out when it was clean. But if it was cleaned before shouldnt of it came off in the first place.

Fourth, not really mechanically inclined but the lower part of the engine was orange like they replaced that or something. I never really thought about until now but now i dont even really remember where that was except it was on the lower part of the engine. I have never looked into an engine bay of an SRT and saw orange anywhere. I have only seen that orange on like a forged engine or something.

According to the information on the side of the door the 3yr warranty expires October of this year.

BTW the charger has every upgrade except sunroof, they want 23.9k and they had the car up for like 2weeks or so for 29.9k

Any information you can give me or rec commending on what to do is appreciated. Im in no rush to buy an SRT8 and got no problems moving on but i think this is a really good deal as long as all those problems stated are nothing major and can easily be fixed.

The orange on the block is normal for that year of car. I think they stopped painting them hemi orange with the late 07-08 models. I think if you looked around you can find one in better shop. It sounds like alot of the stuff is cosmetic but worry about the burnt up oil in the intake

Yeah, i thought about it right now. Way to many problems for a fairly new car.
I got my car with 28k miles and was lucky enough to not find anything major.

Brent Brown has a Silver SRT8 with like 744 miles on for 31k maybe you can talk them down on it. Its an 07. You can probably get them down to 25k

My block is orange. That's standard for the hemi's. Brent Brown has a few SRT Chargers for sale. Let me know and I can talk to some of the sales guys if you are heading down here.

Actually I think the white stuff is soap from the car wash. I get on mine if I go to one of those self serve washes. It's not too hard to get off.

Hey Mike, Nice find....Minor body repairs can be fixed. The white stuff on the Hood, I am not sure bout. the Oil filter, maybe they tried to clean & recharge, but failed horribly. Maybe that didnt know how to clean the filter. The oil in the throttle body & intake manifold is normal & can be cleaned. its still under warranty so I wouldnt be too concern. Have ya check the carfax report? Oh, on the orange, that is correct. My Hemi block is orange too. I think they do that too all the SRT8. That is normally.

Here are 2 others SRT8 on eBay. Both silver; Both Lower miles for bout same cost. These 2 look pretty clean IMO.

Hey Mikey, Check with Moparseller( Rob or Doug) he works for one of the dealerships. Jermaiah down at Brent Brown is a super cool guy too. Ben & I hung out with him in Ptwon parking lot for a minute. He has owned 3 or 4 SRT8. Infact I think he is selling his Csrt8 for Challenger SRT8.

good luck with that. All those Chevy a s sholes have laid claim to most of them, and I'm sure the dealers act like those Camaro's are Lambo's. Like Hinkley Dodge on state and 21st south has a 2007 MSRT8 for $24k and they act like its an Enzo. Understandable, I bought my 6 speed Legend in Seattle & my SRT8 in Florida. If the price is right, i would fly to pick up car. I understand bout not wanting to buy car sight unseen. I was worried both times. So far so good.
