Driving down the road my nav display went black. Music still playing and i can turn it off and on as far as the music but nothing on the display, just black. I stopped and shut it off and back on and it worked fine for a little then went black again, now i cant get the screen to come on anymore. Help.

I have been able to get the unit to come on again, and it stayed on for a while, so i know the unit isnt bad. Pretty sure its a wiring issue. I took everything apart and all the wires and plugs looked good so i have no idea. Ill probably get it looked at.

Could be simply a bad screen. Like laptop computers, our NAV unit has an inverter that the screen plugs into. It is possible the screen has had a short or something in it and is simply causing the unit to ground out and kill the display only. If so, it could unfortunately be damaging the inverter too. LCD screens because of their efficiency use other electronics to function and provide an image by regulating power consumption. Much like an LED bulb for your house... its so efficient it has a ballast built into it to regulate power and create a false load, unlike other bulb ballasting.
NAV units are just small computers and built like them too. You could take parts out one by one and replace them until it is fixed. But if you have to replace certain parts, might was well just buy a Pioneer head unit since they aren't exactly cheap. There's a couple foreign made replacements that do well too and are designed as a factory replacement.
There was another on sale on the nationals just last week too. Could see if its still there if you had too. I've had to solder in a new joystick on mine, pretty easy to do if you had to.

I would be up for an upgrade, maybe a touch screen, that'd be sweet. I definitely want to make sure it looks stock tho; like it fits in the hole lol. I hate it when things look tacky and aftermarket radio displays are generally the worst! Ideas as to brands and maybe some model numbers to look at?

Yeah. When I get minute I'll post a couple. There are a few aftermarket units designed to replicated OEM. Sorry I didn't see the post sooner, been hectic.

I just did a quick online search. I didn't find the thread I've seen before. The Nat's forum has crap search since being revised. There are a couple of less expensive units that are imported that a few guys have used and had good reviews about. But considering they are say $700 vs. an OEM $1000 its not super savings. The other big favorite is the Pioneer Evic. There's a few on this forum using it because it is functional and better fits the opening. If I come across the thread and sale site for the plug and play aftermarket replacement (oem style) I'll put it on here and you can see what you think. For the moment I'm at a loss. Check that... Metra makes some integration kits and the make replacement head units. I believe they offer a kit for the Chrysler cars. They can be viewed at www.qualitymobilevideo.com. There's another one from the nat's forum but I can't think of it...
