What is the best way to strip a car of old wax and how do you know it is all off? And if a chemical is it safe to ues on the vinyl decals? I was told about this stuff have you ever heard of it and is it safe or should I toss it?

When was the last time you waxed it? Besides a spray wax. A good wax will only last you 4-6 weeks max depending on how you wash it. If you use dish soap to wash your car it strips the waxes immediately.

I dont wash my car with soap and water often maybe twice a year. I wipe it down everytime I drive it with detail spray to get any dirt from that drive off. I have heard that if a car has no wax than the water wont bead off the car so I did wash my car with dish soap and the water still beaded off. Thats why I asked how do you know if the wax is really gone.

I hear that degreasers and alot of cleaners are bad forthe BT stuff. So what should we use instead? I'm not a detailer but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night... I heard that the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers work great on the BT items.

It's mostly the feel of the paint that you can tell easily. If you drag your hand across a panel on your car does it kinda grip it? Or does it just glide across? If it's gripping it as you slide it across then your wax is probably gone. Go outside or wherever you keep your Durango and run your hand across that to see what it feels like and you'll get the idea. Id say if I was you, you always have your Durango to try new products on. One thing I'd suggest trying if you haven't is using a clay bar which you can get at almost all the auto parts stores, and just follow the directions in the box. You'll get close to the same feel as wax after you use it, but you'll eventually figure out what the different feels are between a clean panel, and a waxed panel.

I's totally up to you Tanya but with the weather around here and what come up off the road when it's wet outside it's a good idea to wax your car every 3 months even if you don't drive it that much. Jast make sure you don't use a wax with carnuba in it. The solvents in those waxes will clog the pores of your clear and make it age 3 times as fast.

I do keep it waxed and I have been told that the carnuba was not good for the decals. The reason I wanted to know about the stripper was I didnt know if it was good to have layers and layers of wax. I try to stick with the ICE products.

What about using pure carnuba (if there is such a thing)? I've heard something about running a sandwich baggie over your paint to see if it smooth or not and that is how you can tell if you still have wax? My biggest pet peeve is the wheel wells. How do get around the wheels to get those clean?

' Hahaha with the new mod to your Charger I'd love to see someone clean your wheel wells with the wheels still on! The only thing I can suggest is what I do, If it's a high end type car that I'm detailing, I'll actually jack it up and put it on jack stands, then pull the wheels off. This helps with getting the gunk off of the bottom of the car, and I'm also able to clean the back side of the wheel.

The company that I work for (McNeil's) ran a special discount last week to try and get more business through the door. Didn't exactly work out as expected, but it gave me a few surprises. Here's a wheel/tire combo that a car had, yes all 4 looked like this when it came in too. Here's how they all looked when the car left.

How do get around the wheels to get those clean? You would have enjoyed the MOU club night this month as this is exactly what he went over. He said that there is nothing such as "Pure Carrnuba", and if there were it would be very difficult to apply. He also did use a plastic bag to help feel the paint surface as well. He also warned about clay barring as not all product is created equal and bad product can scratch or scratch your paint. There is a new spot on the MOU site to ask this guy questions such as this. One thing I learned is that I was washing my car all wrong and potentially scratching the paint.
